French producer David Duriez has been prolific of late, but it hasn't resulted in him putting out any sub-standard tracks. Here he takes a different approach to his recent release on Freaked; a deep, bass-led groove snakes along before Duriez introduces a trippy 303 riff. DJ Buck's remix sees the US producer opt for a more stripped down sound, while retaining the acid signatures and the original track's mid-paced tempo. Expertly constructed club music. 4/5

What a great month for vinyl! Here David serves up a wonderful dish of deepness just the way we like it. A huge, round bass propels this cut, moody keys hang in for the ride, sleigh bells chink in a wintry manner, and abstract vocal samples offset the rhythms. He chucks in a squashy synth too for a veritable feast of electronic textures. Smooth! DJ Buck remixes; the beats are a little stiff but the ridiculously fat bass is a treat. 7.5/8

CPEN AKA Chris Penny is not your average house producer. Relying on his heavy music background, CPEN is a true musician who can produce brilliant material while still pushing the house envelope. Based in Los Angeles, CPEN has worked alongside JT Donaldson as 'Untitled Orchestra', and with Lance Desardi as 'Curb Feelers'. Also, Watch for the upcoming release from 'Untitled Orchestra' on Straylight. CPEN has also released tracks on Naked Music, Seasons and Glasgow Underground.

The new West Way 12" (SLR008) from David Duriez is soon to be released this winter.

David has recorded on such labels as 20:20Vision, Gourmet, Stickman, Afterhours, Low Pressings, F Com to name a few.

David Duriez is an alien in the world of French dj?s and producers. He is not really from Paris and he does not really make ?French sounding? music. David has developed his own sound, which is far from what people expect, as he is a Frenchma n. David's music is House Music in its purest form. It can be deep, slamming, banging or techno influenced; it doesn't make a difference. David loves versatility and from his music it can be easily seen that he's into a full range of music.

DJ Buck (Leaf/Bluem/Siesta) has been making music for quite a while, you could, dare I say, that he is a vet in the dance music industry. If you haven't heard his stuff, you haven't been around for very long. His last relase on Siesta , "Make It Hot" is a must have for any house DJ.

After receiving outstanding reviews, SLR004 is nearing it's release date.

Following up his first 2 releases on Guidance Recordings (MILE HIGH EP, AMBEGRIS EP), Seafoam a.k.a. Brian Cavender will be venturing out into new territory doing his first release on Straylight.

The 4 tracker, 3323 Sessions EP features a solid set of 4 house tracks. How would you describe the music? Jazz influenced deep house with a touch of techno would well describe Seafoam's current works.

'Ever since he released the Mile High House EP on Chicago's seminal Guidance label, Brian Cavender (better known as Seafoam) has been hot property in the deep house world. The Ambergris EP (also on Guidance) only served to reinforce his posit ion, prompting the up-and-coming Straylight imprint to put out an EP from him. The ensuing tracks, "Lift To Sift," "Mr. Green," and "Too Much," are all well-crafted house cuts designed to move the feet and stir the soul. "Lift To Sift" incorporates smooth uplifting keys, warm fuzzy bass lines, and creative nonlinear beats. "Mr. Green" (presumably a reference to Mary Jane) is a deep, dubby house cut, while "Too Much" is a minimal, atmospheric tech-influenced jam. Lie back and enjoy.'
